Astounding Science Fiction - March 1944 - Deadline - Atomic Bomb Story!
Astounding Science Fiction - March 1944 - Deadline - Banned Atomic Bomb Story!
Though Cleve Cartmill was not as famous as contemporary Astounding authors, his story Deadline in the March 1944 issue caused quite a stir with the US Government when it described a weapon similar to the atomic bomb....which was still secretly being worked on in Los Alamos. The FBI took notice and investigated Cartmill, editor John Campbell and other authors like Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein. It is rumored that some copies of this issue were destroyed, and editor John Campbell was told not to publish any bomb stories for the rest of the year. An uncommon find with a great back story!
Condition: Good+; Bright cover, tape at top and bottom of spine, pages browning.
